The song is an introspective look at pain, betrayal, trauma, and the struggle to keep moving forward when life feels overwhelming. Using the ocean as a metaphor for the heavy pressures surrounding him, Matty Boy moves between vulnerability and defiance. He opens up about post-traumatic nightmares, addiction, and betrayal, but makes it clear he refuses to be defined by them. Lines about writing his secrets in the sand so they wash away show his desire to release the past, even when letting go is difficult.

Directed by Noel Bell of Noble Cinema, the music video brings these themes to life in Matty Boy’s city Vacaville, California. Dressed in all-black with designer sunglasses and a gold clover pendant, Matty Boy performs in a peaceful orchard which creates a stark contrast between the calm landscape and his heavy lyrics. The visual then shifts to a lake where Clever performs, directly connecting to the song’s imagery of rising water and storms. This intentional contrast between the still earth and the open water perfectly mirrors the song's tension between darkness and hope.

“Ocean” doesn’t offer a neat resolution. As the video closes, Matty Boy walks down the road alone, leaving the viewer with a deliberately unresolved image. There is no celebration or sign that his problems are solved; there is only movement. This echoes the song’s opening line, “I’ve been quiet / Got a lot on my mind.” After everything he confronts in the record, Matty Boy is still walking, capturing the true heart of “Ocean”. Sometimes staying afloat doesn't mean you’ve reached the shore but simply that you keep moving.
