Since its inception, Feng Chen Wang's bamboo bags have become synonymous with the brand's name. However, in recent years, the label has expanded its original concept to include various iterations of its core accessory. For the Fall/Winter 2023 collection, the brand introduces its latest addition: a heart-shaped bamboo bag.

Creating these unique bags is a collaborative effort that involves an entire village. Feng Chen Wang hails from China's Fujian region, where bamboo is harvested in abundance. By utilizing this versatile plant, the designer taps into the local communities for assistance in planting, growing, harvesting, and reworking the materials. Notably, Wang employs a team of female artisans, who have honed their skills in working with bamboo over the course of several decades, to bring these bags to life.

The process of transforming bamboo into a bag is an intricate one that requires months of preparation. After the bamboo is harvested, Wang's team meticulously cuts the plant into strips and shapes them before oiling and polishing each piece for optimal arrangement. The artisans then hand-glue different parts of the plant together, resulting in a sturdy and visually appealing structure.

To add the final touch, Wang wraps each plant-based silhouette with a utilitarian leather harness, featuring her distinctive logo, to enhance the bag's functionality and aesthetics. Her namesake iconography also makes a subtle appearance on the bamboo itself, in a faded brown tone.
