Christo and Jeanne-Claude "L'Arc de Triomphe Wrapped" To Be Recycled For 2024 Paris Olympics

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo announced that materials from Christo and Jeanne-Claude's temporary art installation, L'Arc de Triomphe Wrapped, will be recycled for the 2024 Olympic Games. The initiative is a collaboration with Parley for the Oceans, who will repurpose the aluminum-coated blue polypropylene fabric and red rope used to create the artwork. The materials will be transformed into shade structures, tents, or barnums for the Olympic Games. This effort aligns with Christo and Jeanne-Claude's commitment to reuse their artworks. Their previous artwork, the Floating Piers in Italy, was recycled into needle felt and horse riding rings. The wood and steel from L'Arc de Triomphe Wrapped have already been reused by various organizations. The recycled materials from the artwork are seen as a testament to a new economy that rejects harmful and exploitative practices. Christo and Jeanne-Claude's studio is currently working on their next artwork, The Mastaba, which will be the largest contemporary sculpture in the world when completed.
