London-based jewelry brand Hatton Labs and MAD have collaborated to create a limited edition timepiece called Portcullis. The concept and name of the watch are inspired by the heavy, medieval fortified gates found in European castles during the Middle Ages. The gates were used to close off the castle during a siege and were typically made of strong wood and metal in a latticed grille structure. The Portcullis timepiece reimagines the construction of these gates using precious stones and metals. The bezel of the watch is adorned with 40 pyramid baguette diamonds, set in an irregular, upside-down manner to create a fortress-like caging around the dial. This design also creates a visual effect of diamond spikes that contrasts with the metal build of the watch.
