Rukus x New Balance Numeric 440 "Voodoo Doll" Sneakers

Prominent Baton Rouge-based skate shop Rukus has recently announced an exciting collaboration with New Balance Numeric, the dedicated skate line of the footwear brand. This collaboration introduces the "Voodoo Doll" sneakers, which centers around the New Balance Numeric 440 silhouette and draws inspiration from the rich cultural history of Voodoo in Louisiana, a practice that dates back to the 18th century.

The design of the "Voodoo Doll" sneakers incorporates various elements that pay homage to Voodoo. The shoes feature a woven burlap upper base layer, panels of rough suede on the upper, and tack-stitched details. On the lateral side of the shoes, the iconic New Balance "N" logo is crafted from premium red pebble leather, while on the medial side, it is outlined through tack-stitching, resembling the construction of a Voodoo doll.

The collaboration also includes other intricate details. Each shoe has a singular sewed button, reminiscent of the doll's eyes. The inside tag and heels bear a throwback 103 mark, adding a nostalgic touch. Additionally, the shoes come with a special burlap bag, presumably accompanied by a plush Voodoo doll featured in the promotional shoot. Co-branding can be found at the tongue, and the insoles are inspired by Voodoo, while the sock liner boasts a paisley pattern finish.

As of now, the retail pricing for the Rukus x New Balance Numeric 440 collaboration has not been announced. However, the sneakers are expected to be released later today at Rukus' pop-up shop located inside Perkins Rowe in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
